What is Registered Dietitian?

Registered Dietitians (RD) translate the complex science of nutrition into practical dietary advice. As well as providing advice about nutrition and health, Dietitians are also highly skilled to advise about food related problems and treat disease using nutritional treatment.

Title “Registered Dietitians” are the only nutrition professionals in the UK to hold a legally recognised science based degree in nutrition and dietetics and are the members of the British Dietetic Association. This title is protected by law and can only be used by those appropriately trained and who have registered with the Health Professions Council. The minimum training requirement is a 4-year BSc Hons in Dietetics or BSc Hons in related biological science with 2-years post graduate diploma or degree in Dietetics and Nutrition.

The Health Professions Council (HPC) guarantees assurance of quality and commitment to high standards and its role is to protect the public. The HPC ensures that registered professionals meet their standards and keep up-to-date with compulsory Continuing Professional Development (CPD).
